Becoming

I’ve always needed a way to express myself in my daily life. Since I was a little girl, art, of any form, really has given me that outlet.

When I first got sober, I struggled with finding inspiration to create. For so long my artwork had been pain-motivated. 

I drew when I didn’t understand my emotions. I painted when I felt alone. I wrote songs when my friends died. I had no idea how to create without all the hurt drugs and alcohol brought into my life.

Over the past two years, I’ve been becoming more and more comfortable with making art based on how good my life is today. Pain is no-longer my chief motivator, and my artwork has grown because of that. To me, my artwork is a reminder of everything I’ve overcome because of the love that surrounds me today. For that, I will always be grateful.
