Giving Tuesday

A heartfelt thank you to the many generous people who helped us make our $5,000 goal for Giving Tuesday. Your support makes a world of difference to our young sober artists. Together we make great things possible!

News and Program Highlights

Legal Graffiti Montage

Legal Graffiti

Kansas City

Our second pilot program in Kansas City was a great success. Many new participants engaged in painting and expressing themselves in new ways. Blake, a member of Hope Creates Creative Advisory Board, concluded that it is his "life's purpose to bring Hope Creates to Kansas City." We have begun fundraising to make this dream possible.

Legal Graffiti Montage

Felting and Fabric Collage

St. Louis

Haven H. and Raina F., Hope Creates members, lead us in taking wool scraps and fibers and transformed them into works of art by using the technique of dry barbed needle felting. Members exclaimed how gratifying it was to "pound out feelings," making beautiful collages or images with wool.

Drum Circle Montage

Drum Circle

St. Louis

We brought members from St. Louis and Kansas City together through physical movement and meditative rhythms. There was lots of laughter and several young artists mentioned that they felt connected with each other and supported by the group when they did their solo beats.

Deck The Walls Montage

Deck the Walls

St. Louis

David B. and Sarah B. designed a large mural to cover one of our walls in "Open Studio," making our new space dynamic. After they drew a "paint by number" guide on the surface, Sarah led the group in transforming blank walls into a work of art that we can all be proud to call our sober creative space.

Before and After Montage

Before and After

St. Louis and Kansas City

Our Before and After installation is a visual exploration of addiction and recovery. Through our art and our stories, we inspire interactive dialogues that may sustain others who also face this plague. We give voice to the experience of addiction and to our hope in recovery.

Please see our installation at Medici MediaSpace, 2065 Walton Road, St. Louis MO 63114 through March 31. It is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM-5 PM or view online at Hope Creates Gallery.

Progress Not Perfection Montage

Progress Not Perfection

St. Louis and Kansas City

Our more than one-year sober musicians, artists, and dancers shared their hope and creativity through a virtual Facebook Live exhibition that you are still able to watch (don't worry, the video does straighten out in a couple of minutes). We have received over 2,500 individual views already. You won't want to miss the testimonies of our young sober artists.

2020 has been a year of devastating losses and challenges as COVID brought the world to our collective knees. We have been forced to create new ways of doing things that we had taken for granted in the past. Our close connections with those we love have been hampered by the need to shelter safely. A simple hug, an in-person meeting, or popping in on family or a friend are not so simple in this moment. Yet, this will pass and we will continue to create and connect the best way we can around the globe.

All of us need a connection to thrive. As Hope Creates delivers our programming, we will focus on safe physical distance and social connection to maintain our serenity, sanity, and sobriety. May you find ways to safely connect with those you love as we move into 2021!

Thank you for what you have done to help Hope Creates support our young recovering artists. They need your continued support at the end of this crazy year to thrive.
