Artist Statement

Before sobriety, I used art as a safe place to release my emotions when I wasn’t comfortable speaking about them. I also loved to create different realities other than what I was experiencing through drawings and paintings.

In sobriety, I started making art not only to channel my difficult emotions but to be a physical representation of the growth and freedom I was starting to feel. I used to focus a lot on the outcome of whatever I was making, but now I try to focus on using the process of creating as a form of meditation and healing. Creating art inspired by the beauty I see around me gives me the opportunity to reflect and be more grateful.
